Surf season peaks at Arugam Bay. Trincomalee offers calm seas and whale sharks. This is the secret season that experienced travellers exploit. October to November: Second shoulder season. Short rains can hit both coasts briefly. It is the quietest tourist period and offers the lowest prices. The hill country and cultural triangle are still very doable. December: The west and south coast dry out again. Peak season pricing begins. Christmas and New Year are busy but the weather cooperates beautifully.
